Hey Marilyn, what function does the wood screw clamp provide? I would think the leg vise would be pretty solid. I ask because I’m thinking of installing one down the road. Also, if you rotated 90 degrees so the paring cuts were pushed into the bench it might help too. Just curious and trying to learn.
I was chiseling out the dovetail socket and didn’t want to crack or split the upper part of the leg. I’ll be using the screw clamp when I install the dovetailed blade into the socket so that I don’t cause problems. Make sense?

Is that a Veritas plow plane?
Yes, and it’s a great plane. One of my favorites.

Perfect sense. Thanks.
Nice project series- are the pliers for tightening the plow plane knobs without marring? What’s the make/model?
Thanks! And yes the pliers are meant to prevent marring. I got them at Lee Valley:http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?cat=1,43456,43400&p=32197. They’re a little on the light weight side, but they do the job.
