I get better at sharpening .. and my dovetails get better

I’m getting better at sharpening and consequently getting better at my dovetails.  Less pull out and smoother surfaces for the joints to connect on.

I also got a new tool (jeweler’s saw) to help me speed things along (I’m soooooo slow).  Lack of shop time, a full time job and still pretty much doing most things for the first time makes for lots of time needed to complete a project.  But hey, whose in hurry, anyway?

Oh, and what’s with the pink tape?  Wellll .. I thought you’d never ask.  I’m off to a wood working class soon and bringing my own tools.  The pink tape serves two purposes:

1. I can see across the room where my tools are if someones using them.  It’ll help me keep track of them.
2. I’ve heard that most men won’t touch pink tools.  It’ll be fun to see if its true.  : D

Wall Cabinet – Dovetails laid out and partially cut

Time to start the next project – Guild Build # 2 – The Flippin’ Potty Cabinet

While the finish on the TV table is drying, its time to think about the next project.

Now I know you all (both of you) have been wondering “whatever happened to that wall cabinet Marilyn was going to do”?  Well, it finally time.

So the wood I have for this is African mahogany. I’ve never worked with African mahogany and I’m kinda worried about how it will plane, chisel, etc.  We’ll see.

So why the nickname?? I was reading something a while ago (I can’t remember what) where Chris Schwarz was talking about building a wall cabinet over the toilet and he referred to it as the “flipping potty cabinet”.  So mine was also named.

Oh and this is a Wood Whisperer Guild Build Project.  I wanted to work along, but other things got in the way.

So here we go!

Ready, set … wall cabinets!

So I made a space for my tool wall cabinet in the garage and in the process did a through cleaning and a modest bench upgrade so that I can do a lot of the future projects with hand tools. And I will be finding an new location for the toy (the Jet planer/jointer).

Oh, wondering about the end tables? They’re on their 3rd coat of finish. Pictures soon .. and no, I haven’t made the drawer yet.
