The top of the jewelry box is also made of curly (quilted?) maple. Out of the planer, there was a fair amount of tear out, but my high angle smoother made short work of it. I also got the lower section internals in.
After cutting the rabbets and doing a little clean up, it was time to glue the box up with the bottom in. Next, I’ll glue in the top and then cut the box apart. 
I matched the pieces and cleaned up the rabbets together. 
Then cleaned up the pieces for glue up. 
Glue up!
This project is a secret Christmas gift for the spouse .. a jewelry box. It’s also a Wood Whisperer Guild project .. although Marc is building a humidor. I’m using the wonderful curly maple I picked up at Northwest Timber.
I cut a groove into the front, back and sides to install a decorative strip. 
Using the No. 80 scraper to final size the decorative strip. 
Decorative strip of paduk installed. 
Then I cut the sides, back and front from the board. 
Shooting the pieces square and to final size. 
First dry fit. Obviously, some trimming and fitting still needs to be done.
