Turns out I’m not the only one making a Dutch Tool Chest.  Dan over at The Fameless Woodworker ~ Inconspicuously working  (aka. Project Severed Cords) is also starting his Dutch Tool Chest.  Looks like we’ll both be working on our own chests in the next few weeks.  Can’t wait to see how each of ours turn out.

In the meantime, I’m milling, milling, milling.

Seems like someone didn’t learn her lesson about milling and wide stock.

Once stock is cut to size and the top is sloped it should fit fine.

…  and makin’ sure it fits under the bench where it will live.

A while back I found some nice wide popular at the lumber yard, so I scooped it up for this project.  It’s just under an inch thick and 15″ to 16″ wide.  I’ll be making the Dutch Tool Chest from this wood which is the same chest in the October 2013 Popular Wood Working Magazine.  My plan is to have it live under the end of my bench.

So in order for it to fit and sit on 2 1/2″ wheels (simulated by scrap wood in the picture) is ends up being almost exactly the same height as the chest described in the magazine article.  BUT .. since I have just shy of 15″ wide stock, I’ll be making it a bit wider (Chris’ is made with 1″x 12″ Home center lumber aka 3/4″ x 11 1/2″).  It’ll be the Chubby Dutch. 😉

I’m hopin’ this will be a quick project, but I have a way of turn short project into epic journeys so we’ll see.
